THROUGH WILDERNESS

STATEMENT
The pieces for Through Wilderness were created to depict the struggle of being in a place of mental, physical, or spiritual “wilderness”. The wilderness is a metaphor often used in the old and new testaments of biblical text as a place of trial, confusion or testing, but also as a place of Gods renewal and rest offered in such unexpected places and moments. Each piece uses historical symbols referring to the individual triumphs and trails in the life of Jesus as a source of guidance and hope in relation to personal symbols to create a narrative interwoven with the complications of the individual search for physical and spiritual direction, meaning, and comfort in seemingly dark and pathless situations.
